File Synchronization the Easy Way

I'm a graduate student and I'm writing a thesis. I've been paranoid lately of losing it, especially since one of my external hard drives just died on me.

I found a completely free program that allows you to automatically back-up or sync your files. It's called Allway Sync and you can get it here:

www.allwaysync.com

The interface is very easy to use. You simply pick a location on both sides of the screen and click synchronize to make sure all of the files match up. There are a variety of options for automatic synchronization, including whenever a USB key is plugged in, when you log off, whenever files are changed, or you can even schedule it with Windows task scheduler. It's a handy feature. I've set my My Documents folder to synchronize every morning at 6am. That way, all of my important files are always on 2 different hard drives.

There are many options that I won't go into detail about. It's all covered pretty well in the help files, so check it out.
